Detroit Sports. Not a very good situation we have brewing here.
It seems like the only thing we have going for us is the Wings.
So first off, lets start with My Detroit Tigers. I know I am the worlds biggest fan of the Tigs, but I mean come on! Do something. So far this off season the Tigers have done just what they said they were going to do, and this disappoints me! Dombrowski sits up there and states that we are not going for any upper level guys this off-season. Which in turn, has proved to be true. We have added 2 mediocre defensive catchers, who cannot swing a bat. A sloppy starting pitcher via a trade with Tampa, sending a promising young left handed bat, Matt Joyce away. Not to mention that his defense was stellar. Adam Everett. Not to rip on the guy, he is a great defensive player, which is good, because God knows that Renteria sucked it up last year, but with Inge playing third this year, that means that the left side of our infield will be batting an average .210.
All I am asking from the Tigers are to go out and throw a little money toward a bullpen. I swear that if Fernando Rodney is our closer this year. I am committing suicide. I cannot watch another season where we blow 20+ games in the 7th inning or later. This is my suggestion for them. Go bring in Derek Lowe, so our starting rotation would be as followed;
1. Verlander
2. Derek Lowe
3. Gallaraga
4. Bondo
5. Edwin Jackson
That would leave out bullpen as followed;
Bobby Seay, Nate Robertson, Zach Miner, Freddy Dolsi (If he can stop blowing it), Fernando Rodney (as 7th inning guy), Joel Zumaya (Setup), CLOSER???
Ahhhhh, the closing role. Please, Please, Please bring in someone. I will seriously be happy with Trevor Hoffman, since DumBrowski traded Joyce for Jackson instead of Joyce for Putz.
But I have faith for the Tigers. As long as they find a closer. With all the power bats and great defense they have in line now. I think they could make a playoff push. I just wish they would trade Sheff to the Rangers for some more bullpen help and then sign my fav, Ken Griffey Jr. to play DH. But with Illitch screaming hes going broke, I don't see anything pricey going down.
Now lets move to the Pistons.
Ever since they have obtained A.I. from Denver for the heart and soul of our team, Chauncy Billups. I have seen a collapse. Now I don't watch too much basketball, but I follow the highlights enough to know a stupid move when I see one. How could you trade a clutch performer, in Billups for a proven cancer in A.I. Now I know A.I. can be a great player, believe me I know. But if your plan is to win Championships, how do you make that move? There is no way Detroit is getting past the first Round of the playoffs, this year. That's if they even make it.
All those stupid rumors about the 2 year plan. That is ignorant. For those that don't know what I'm talking about, the deal is, that in 2 years when A.I.s contract is up and so is RIPs. The Pistons are going to sign LeBron James. I'm sorry, but LeBron will not come to Detroit. He will do 1 of 3 things. Re-sign with Cleveland, go to the Knicks, or what I believe he will do, that no one else is talking about, I believe that he will go out west. Think about it. He is a BIG TIME celebrity and would fit fine with LA. I just see that happening.
Now if that was Joe Ds thinking. Waiting for LeBron. Then getting rid of Billups was a pretty stupid idea, and which this will probably make the Pistons look more like the Detroit Lions.
And that is my final topic.
The Detroit Lions.
I used to be the Lions biggest fan. Never missed a game. But after last year, I was done. Like a really bad break up. I parted ways. Even this pre-season when they went 4-0 and everybody was like uh oh, "You better watch out for those Lions!" I knew it was a fluke. First off, when you are playing in pre-season folks, its really not your objective to win. Now don't get me wrong, "You Play To Win the Game!" But it is really to evaluate and know what you have for the season. This is what got me. When your secondary is made up of washed up nobodies and never-will-bes. You have a major issue. Prime example; I had a buddy who was trying to tell me that the Lions were going to go 8-8. LOL. We argued everyday at work. Finally, I asked him., "Can you name me 1 person out of the Lions secondary? Without using the Internet." He then went on to name of people such as Frenando Bryant and a few other nobodies that were not on the team anymore. So finally, once I reassured him that our secondary was as weak as Dustin Diamond, he seen a little bit of the light. Get this! He does not talk Lions to me no more. Hmmmmmmmm. Whys that? Oh yea, there on the verge of going 0-16, which is what I call perfection. Oh, I mean, Imperfection.
But here are a few bright spots.
I like the defensive front of the Lions. Ernie Simms will be a Hall Of Famer. He is a good LB. I see Shaun Cody doing great things on the field in the future as well as Clif Avril. Give a little credit to the O-Line. They are starting to come together. I think? Oh well. Knowing that the Lions got the 1st overall draft pick in next years draft, I will leave it up to the Fords to mess that one up. Because realistically, that's who's running the team. Just sell the team to some smuck so they can attempt to turn it around. Because you are not doing anything. I am officially jumping on the Sam Bradford train for next year. No, No, No, not hoping that the Lions will draft him. Hoping that he will go back to school so he does not have a dreaded NFL career with the Lions.
But lets be a little more realistic. The Lions actually have a decent chance for next year. Not only do they have the 1st overall pick, they will also have the Cowboys 1st overall pick that they received in the trade for Roy Williams. I say we draft a nice young QB at #1 and use the other pick for a DB and not a WR!!!!!!! Then you can add another DB in free agency and your a playoff team. With a good coaching staff that is. If the staff does not change, you will be looking at another lousy team next year. Bring in Bill Cower. Although he will be in Cleveland next year. I just admire him as a Head Coach and would love to see him turn our team around.
That's it for my Detroit Sports Blog. Hope you all enjoyed.
Let me leave you with one onf the greatest Sports quotes ever.
